The Petroleum Engineering Summer School Dubrovnik - exchange of knowledge

The Petroleum Engineering Summer School (PESS) has been operating within the aca-demic program of advanced studies of the Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik (IUC) for thir-ty years (first PESS was in 1987).

PESS workshops, which are held in June every year, are organized by the Faculty of Mining, Geology & Petroleum Engineering of the University of Zagreb. Topics covered by the PESS are contemporary technical, technological, environmental and economic is-sues in field of oil & gas industry and energy industry in general.

The mission of the Petroleum Engineering Summer School is the exchange of knowledge at advance academic and expert level, offering the extensive possibilities for international collaboration of the professionals in the oil & gas industry.

The workshops are organized as lectures followed by professional discussions. The offi-cial language of the PESS is English. Outstanding professors and experts from the USA, Europe, and other regions participate as guest speakers or lecturers.

Long-term collaboration in organizing the Petroleum Engineering Summer School has been established with university professors from the USA (Louisiana State University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Colorado School of Mines, Massachusetts Insti-tute of Technology (MIT), the University of Oklahoma, the University of Tulsa, Texas A&M University), Austria (Innsbruck University, Montan University of Leoben), Hungary (Mis-kolc University, University of Szeged), Russia (Gubkin State University, Moscow, St Pe-tersburg State University, St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance), Romania (Petroleum and Gas University-Ploesti), the Netherlands (TU Delft), Venezuela, Iraq (University of Sulaimani) and Malaysia (University of Technology Petronas).

Furthermore, a number of experts from leading industrial corporations were included in performance of the programs, like INA, ConocoPhillips, Statoil, Schlumberger, Total, E-On, ENI, OMV, MOL, Lukoil, and other.

In addition to financial support of the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, the traditional sponsors of the PESS are: INA Group, MOL Group, INAgip, Janaf, Plinacro, and Croatian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council, as well as SPE Croa-tian Section.

JUNE, 5th – 9th 2017

Day 1 -June, 5th – Business solutions for petroleum companies in challenging global environment

On the first day round table discussion will focus on challenges of petroleum companies concerning megatrends on global market and implementation of new technical and tech-nological innovations for sustainable business solutions.

Short Course – June, 6th – 9th 2017: ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY (EOR) & EN-HANCED GAS RECOVERY (EGR)

The task of the Short Course is to explore how to revitalize mature fields with the contem-porary EOR/EGR methods. The scope of the course is to give the comprehensive knowledge of new technologies and reservoir characterization in exploitation of remain-ing hydrocarbon reserves.

JUNE, 12th – 16th 2017

Day 1 – June, 12th 2017 – FUTURE OF NATURAL GAS MARKET

On the first day round table discussion will focus on challenges of natural gas market and energy companies in changing global conditions

Course 1. June, 13th – 16th 2017 LNG Master Class

Course will address following topics like LNG infrastructure, small scale LNG projects, pricing & regulation, geopolitics, business models and contracting.

Course 2. June, 13th – 16th 2017 POROMECHANICS & HYDRAULIC FRACTURING

The scope of the course is to give insight into poromechanics and hydraulic fracturing in order to increase hydrocarbon production from mature fields and unconventional reser-voirs.
